A Christmas Classic in the Making: The Story of Our Hand Block Printed Table Runner

There’s something magical about Christmas décor—especially when it carries the warmth of human hands. Our red and green floral Christmas table runner is one such piece, brought to life through the slow and deliberate art of hand block printing.

Every runner begins long before the colours touch the fabric.
It starts with pinning the fabric.

1. Preparing the Canvas

We use 100% cotton sheeting fabric—a soft, breathable textile that absorbs colour beautifully. The fabric is carefully pinned and stretched to ensure there are no wrinkles. This step may seem simple, but it sets the foundation for the precision that follows.

Next, we mark the dimensions of the table runner directly onto the fabric. This outline acts as a guide for the artisans, ensuring the motifs fall exactly where they should.

2. Mixing the Colours

Christmas has a distinct palette.
For this design, we prepare deep festive reds and rich greens, mixed by hand until each shade is just right. The colours are blended in small batches, ensuring every stroke stays true and consistent.

Colour mixing is an art in itself. A little more binder, a little less pigment, a touch of water—it takes experience to know when a colour is “ready.”

3. Starting With the Border

Hand block printing always begins at the edges.
The artisan prints the borders first. One misalignment, and the rhythm of the pattern shifts. That’s why this stage demands full focus.

4. Then Comes the Outline

Once the border is complete, the next block adds the outline of the floral motif. This outline acts like the skeleton of the design.
It creates structure and brings the composition to life.

After the outline is printed, the fabric must rest and dry.
Nothing can be rushed in block printing.

5. Layering the Colours

Now comes the truly magical part.

With the base dry, we add the first colour—usually the dark green foliage.
Every block is placed carefully inside the outlines.

Again, the piece must dry completely.

Next, we add the reds, filling in the flowers.
Each colour is printed separately, each layer dried individually.
This process continues until the full artwork emerges—a vibrant, festive tapestry of red and green.

6. A Long Process Built on Precision & Patience

From pinning the cloth to printing the final colour, every step of this runner is slow, methodical, and intentional.

There are no shortcuts.
No machines.
Just the hands, eyes, and instincts of our artisans.

It’s this time, effort, and devotion that make every table runner unique—no two pieces are ever identical. And that is the charm of handmade craft.

A Table Runner Made for Celebration

When you lay this runner on your Christmas table, you’re not just decorating your home—you’re sharing space with the skill, patience, and tradition of our artisans.
It becomes part of your family’s festive story.
